Apprenticeships at Barnsley Hospital

Earn, learn and make a difference as an apprentice at the Hospital. Our apprenticeships offer routes into a number of business and administration roles. You’ll learn through a mix of on-the-job training and classroom learning.

What you need to know about NHS apprenticeships

  • you must be at least 16 years old to apply but there is no upper age limit; many apprenticeships at Barnsley Hospital are career changers
  • you’ll be an apprentice for between one and five years
  • you will likely spend four days on work placement and one day at a training centre or college
  • you’ll gain a qualification which can range from Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) to Level 7 (Master’s degree equivalent)

In the past, the hospital has recruited for apprentice roles such as - Health Care Assistant, Porter, Accountant, Procurement, Allied Health Professional and Communications Officer.

After completing an apprenticeship, you can apply for a permanent role in the NHS or continue studying - an apprenticeship at a higher level, or perhaps a university course.
