Children’s Respiratory team

The Children’s Respiratory Team provide medical, nursing, dietetic and physiotherapy care to Children and Young People up to the age of 16 years of age who have a respiratory illness such as; Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia.

The team consists of Paediatricians (doctors who specialise in child health), Children’s Respiratory Nurses, Paediatric Dietitians and Paediatric Physiotherapists.

The team work closely with children, young people and their families to ensure that they are able to manage their condition at home and other settings i.e. school, monitor symptoms and response to treatments ensuring they are able to live a normal, active life.

We provide:

  • Education to children, young people and their families, nursing and medical staff
  • Face to face consultations
  • Home visits
  • Telephone consultations
  • Lung function testing
  • Inhaler technique checks/training
  • Personal asthma action plans
  • School care plans
  • Smoking/Vaping cessation and referral to services
  • Referral to specialist services
  • Research

The team are part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw ICB Asthma Transformation Project and are working locally to meet all the project standards. We also participate in the National Respiratory Audit Programme (NRAPP) which aims to improve the quality of care service and clinical outcomes for people with respiratory illness.
