How to Include Links in a News Story or Page

This guide will walk you through adding various types of links to your content, including web links, phone links, and email links.

Adding a Web Link to the Content

  1. Log in to the Barnsley Hospital Website
  2. Navigate to the specific news story or page you want to edit by following the steps for locating content.
  3. In the content editor, highlight or select the text you want to turn into a link (e.g., “Visit our website”).
  4. Click on the “Insert/Edit Link” icon in the toolbar (usually represented by a chain link symbol).
  5. A dialog box will appear. Enter the URL of the web page you want to link to in the provided field.
  6. Once done, click “Save” or the 'good mark' to apply the link to the text.
  7. Preview the changes and ensure the link works as intended, then save or update the page.

Adding a Phone Link to Content

  1. In the content editor, select the phone number text you want to link (e.g., “Call us at 01234 567890”)
  2. Click on the “Insert/Edit Link” icon in the toolbar(usually represented by a chain link symbol).
  3. In the URL field, type tel: followed by the phone number with no spaces (e.g., tel:01234567890).
  4. Click “Save” or the 'good mark' to apply the link to the text.
  5. Preview the changes to ensure the phone link works, then save or update the page.

Adding an Email Link to Content

  1. In the content editor, select/highlight the email address text you want to link (e.g., “Contact us at info@barnsleyhospital.nhs.uk”).
  2. Click on the “Insert/Edit Link” icon in the toolbar(usually represented by a chain link symbol).
  3. In the URL field, type mailto: followed by the email address (e.g., mailto:info@barnsleyhospital.nhs.uk).
  4. Click “Save” or the 'good mark' to apply the link to the text.
  5. Preview the changes to ensure the email link works, then save or update the page.
