Our Emergency Department is very busy right now and some people are experiencing long waits. If you do not require emergency care, please use an alternative such as 111 online.
Patients are referred directly from the Emergency Department (A and E), adjacent to the Physiotherapy Department with acute musculoskeletal injuries, which are traumatic in nature.
Patients are referred directly from the Orthopaedic Consultants - which may be from Orthopaedic Clinics or Fracture Clinics with joint dysfunction, e.g. osteoarthritis, muscle and ligament strains such as tennis or golfers’ elbow, frozen shoulder and repetitive strain injuries.
Patients are referred directly from the Orthopaedic Wards at Barnsley Hospital to continue their rehabilitation.
Patients are referred directly from Orthopaedic Consultants from other neighbouring hospitals.
All patients attend as outpatients and have been referred by a consultant, or another health care professional such as a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
Patients are assessed and treated on a one to one basis and are then referred on to other areas for the most appropriate rehabilitation; for example the Physiotherapy Gym, the Physiotherapy Department, hydrotherapy, Community Physiotherapy and the Assessment and Rehabilitation Therapy Service.
