Our Emergency Department is very busy right now and some people are experiencing long waits. If you do not require emergency care, please use an alternative such as 111 online.
Keep the wound covered with a dressing as advised by the medical or nursing staff.
Keep the wound clean and dry.
If you have a scalp wound, be careful when washing or combing your hair.
Is there anything I should look out for?
Return to the Emergency Department if your wound bleeds heavily, becomes red, hot, swollen or painful.
When do I need to have the stitches removed?
Before discharge (being sent home) from the hospital, a member of staff should tell you when you should make an appointment with your GP practice nurse, in order for the stitches to be removed.
If you are uncertain about when you should book an appointment for their removal, please do ask a member of medical or nursing staff.
