Our Emergency Department is very busy right now and some people are experiencing long waits. If you do not require emergency care, please use an alternative such as 111 online.
The team play a key role in helping the care of patients to be delivered in a timely and coordinated way.
The cancer services team co-ordinate patient pathways subject to national cancer waiting times, and organise 2 week wait referrals.
Cancer services also provide managerial oversight of the Acute Oncology nursing service. The Acute Oncology team provide expert input in to the care of patients admitted to the hospital with acute complications of cancer.
The team comprises:
- the cancer management team (Lead Cancer Manager, Lead Cancer Nurse, and the Cancer Informatics and Systems Manager who work in partnership with the Executive and Clinical Leads for cancer);
- a business support officer
- the 2 week wait and MDT Coordinators
- tracker and admin support.
Barnsley Hospital provides cancer services for the following tumour groups:
- bone
- breast
- colorectal
- dermatology
- gynaecology
- haematology
- head and neck
- lung
- upper gastro intestinal
- urology
Each of these cancers has a team of experts who attend multi-disciplinary team meetings where decisions are made regarding the care and treatment of cancer patients.
Barnsley is a cancer locality within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Cancer Alliance. We work closely with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, to ensure Barnsley residents are provided with the highest standards of cancer care and treatment, in the best possible setting.
The team are based on the ground floor of Block 14 and the service hours are:
8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
