Community Paediatrics
Our service is split in to two main areas. Community Paediatric Services is a part of Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and offers a service to the children and young people across the Barnsley area. Below is a breakdown of the services we offer and the criteria for referral.
Paediatric Autism Assessment Service
Our Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment Team (ASDAT) offers a specialist assessment and diagnosis service for children and young people under the age of 18. As a specialist medical assessment service, we are unable to offer support, training or interventions for autism. Our role is to focus on assessing the child’s difficulties against the DSM-5 criteria for diagnosis and to rule out any other medical factors which may be causing these.
For young people aged 18 or above, please speak to your family GP who can refer you to the adult assessment service at The Manygates Clinic, Wakefield.

Put yourself forward for governor elections
Being a Governor is a fantastic way to be involved with the running of the Trust and it doesn’t take up as much time as you might think. At a minimum, 10 hours of your time per a year is required to attend online meetings. But, of course, you can be involved much more than this!
Car parking at the hospital
If you are travelling to an appointment or visiting by car, please allow extra time to park, as spaces fill up quickly during peak times.
Getting to and around Barnsley Hospital
The hospital is divided into four main zones – blue, purple, orange and red - to help make it easier for you to find your way around.
Please be aware we have some construction happening on site right now so some areas in front of our main entrance have been temporarily changed.

We've also produced a map that shows you in which zone all of the hospital’s wards departments are: Barnsley Hospital Ward and Department Guide (PDF).
Hospital volunteers at the main entrance will be able to help guide you to where you need to go, also.
